Collier County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 38-year-old man Tuesday in the March shooting death of a man in Immokalee.

Gonzalo Herrera of 608 Hope Circle in Immokalee is in the Collier County jail charged with second-degree murder.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on March 13, deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 1900 block of Alexander Circle. Once on scene, deputies found the 36-year-old victim sprawled in a parking lot with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy concluded that his death was a homicide brought about by multiple gunshot wounds

The identity of the victim is protected under the Florida statute known as Marsy’s Law.

Witness statements and evidence led detectives to develop Herrera as a suspect. Herrera and the victim were known to each other. A family dispute led to the shooting, detectives said.

Herrera was being booked into the jail Tuesday afternoon. His arrest photo will be released when it becomes available.
