UPDATED: 15th Ave Fire now at 1,000 acres, 10% contained

COLLIER COUNTY-  On the afternoon of Saturday, May 22, 2021 the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) began assisting Greater Naples Fire and Florida Forestry Service with a brush fire near Desoto Blvd S and 14th Ave South. Desoto Blvd is closed south of Golden Gate Blvd. Deputies are beginning voluntary evacuations on 12th 14th and 16th Aves South east of Everglades.

“We’ve activated our Real Time Ops Center and our Incident Management Team at HQ to assist the ops and logistics for the Emergency Response Teams at the fire scene. Voluntary evacs remain for 12th, 14th & 16th Southeast off Everglades. All others in area have a plan and be ready to act,”

CCSO announced. “Be prepared-have a plan-be ready to evacuate if you are in the area. Make sure you have a plan for your livestock and pets, too!”

They also issued a safety alert:

“NO DRONES in the fire area! Substantial air support is on the way to help battle this fire. There can be NO DRONES in their emergency air space. Please help us all keep safe! Share this message!”

Road Closure Update:

Everglades Blvd south of Golden Gate Blvd is CLOSED.

Voluntary evacuations are in place for the following streets:

Off Desoto - 12th, 14th, &16th Aves SE west of Desoto only.

Off Everglades Blvd - 12th, 14th, 16th, and 18th on BOTH sides of Everglades Blvd.

The reunification point for families impacted by the brush fire is Max Hasse Park, 3390 Golden Gate Blvd. W.

6:13 p.m. Florida Forestry Service update: “14th Ave fire - 300 acres 10% contained. 8 dozers on scene. CCSO Air Rescue 1 on scene. Multiple Cooperative and FD units on scene.”

6:49 p.m. CCSO update: “The fire is advancing rapidly West and in a very slight Southern direction. Check the map we just posted on the below post to see if you are in potential danger and prepare accordingly. The winds are not letting up. It’s going to be a very long night.”

**8:30 p.m. update from Florida Forestry Service: 14th Ave fire - Size is now 1,000 acres & 10% contained.
