On April 1, Collier Area Transit (CAT) will make changes to Route 28, which serves Golden Gate Estates, Everglades Boulevard, and Immokalee. In addition to those service areas, Route 28 will travel south on Camp Keais Road. A bus stop will be established at Pope John Paul II Boulevard and Camp Keais Road. The route will then travel west on Oil Well Road, with stops established at Ave Maria Boulevard and at the Arthrex facility on Oil Well Road. The specific timing for each stop will be provided closer to the time of the route change. There will be three stops per day. Plans are being considered that may allow CAT access to the city center of Ave Maria and, possibly, a flag-down service along the route through the city. “I think the CAT bus reaching Ave Maria would be an amazing opportunity for students without a vehicle or money for gas. This will give them a chance to reach school easier if it can follow the general school schedule” said Immokalee resident Raulito Dimas, a sophomore at Ave Maria University, who is pursing his bachelor’s degree in psychology.
