Collier Deltas to salute five organizations during its inaugural Torch Awards program

Posted

NAPLES — On Saturday, April 9, during its inaugural Torch Awards program, the Collier County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will recognize five local organizations for their outstanding service to Collier County.

The five – all community partners of the Collier County Alumnae Chapter – exemplify the sorority’s public service emphasis: to promote academic excellence; provide scholarships; provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in
their communities.

This year’s awardees are Champions For Learning, the League of Women Voters of Collier County, Hope for Haiti, Taste of Immokalee, and the NCH Critical Care staff.

“We are proud to recognize our community partners in the area of our five programmatic thrusts – Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement,” said Dena Liston, president of the Collier County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. “They represent the very best of our community and their work has changed lives for the better.”

The Collier Deltas’ 11 a.m. April 9 virtual event will include entertainment by Shyann Roberts, a national recording artist and a member of the girl group June’s Diary formed by singer Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child.

A St. Petersburg-based R&B and pop songbird, Roberts was the youngest member chosen to be a part of June’s Diary during the BET docuseries “Chasing Destiny.”

Tickets, for $35 each, can be purchased via Eventbrite at https://tinyurl.com/CCACTorchAwards.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the chapter’s programming and community service, including scholarships and mentoring.

The chapter also is sponsoring a virtual souvenir booklet to commemorate the Torch Awards with advertisements for $50 for a half page and $100 for a full page. To purchase an ad, send an email to collierdst@gmail.com or call 239-682-9181.
