Immokalee’s own 18U softball travel team headed to Clermont over the weekend to bring back the Championship Title. They were victorious after scoring 57 runs and only allowing 13 runs the entire weekend. They went 5-0 and run ruled two of the teams they played. The girls all had tremendous hits, with 4 homeruns, 2 from Ava Nunez, 1 from Mireya Flores and 1 from Bianca Palacios.

In the championship game the girls grabbed an early lead on its way to a 10-1 victory over Atlanta Premier on Sunday. SWFL Phoenix scored on a triple by Cenaida Herrera and a single by Keonna Gonzalez in the first inning.

SWFL Phoenix tallied five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Nunez, Herrera, Melissa Morales, Gonzalez, and Flores, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Nunez was the winning pitcher. She surrendered one run on seven hits over five innings, striking out one and walking zero. Atlanta Premier allowed 12 hits and ten runs over four innings.

SWFL Phoenix saw the ball well, racking up 12 hits in the game. Ayssa Ocanas, Gonzalez, Morales and Nunez each collected multiple hits. Nunez, Morales, Gonzalez and Ocanas each managed two hits to lead the team.

The program was founded by Coach Mando Nunez in 2014 and has expanded over the years. They now have two teams, an 18U team and a 14U team. The coaching staff also includes: Jacob Martinez, Ruben Lucio, Marissa Ocanas, Stephanie Vargas and Adam Turrubiartez Jr.

They are currently seeking dedicated players and families to continue to grow the program. If interested, please contact Rhonda Nunez at (239) 464-4046.
