IMMOKALEE — A groundbreaking ceremony for Global Flight Training Solutions (GFTS) three hangar facilities’ is planned at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Immokalee Regional Airport (IMM), 165 Airpark Blvd, Immokalee, FL 34142. Board of County Commissioners (BCC) Chairman, William L. McDaniel, Jr., District 5 will be the featured speaker.

IMM is situated on 1,333 acres of land located approximately 35 miles northeast of Naples and 110 miles northwest of the Port of Miami and has two asphalt runways fitted with runway lights. Runway 09/27 is 5000 X 100 feet and Runway 18/36 is 4550 X 150 feet. Both runways are available 24/7.

The airport welcomed GFTS, an international flight training school, in the fall of 2020. Since establishing operations at IMM, the company has developed successful flight training programs for both local and international student pilots. On May 11, 2021, the BCC executed a forty-year ground lease with the company for approximately 141,330 square feet to be used for the construction, and subsequent operation of aircraft hangars. The development will include three steel buildings approximately 10,000 square feet each, consisting of aircraft hangar units, office space and restrooms. The school’s future plans include developing an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility (MRO) along with a Federal Aviation Administration approved jet charter operation.
