Mac Daddy’s Cleaning during COVID-19

We all worry about the small businesses that have had to reduce their services or completely close down during the viral crisis we are experiencing. However, some local, family-owned businesses, like Mac Daddy Carpet and Tile Cleaning, provide essential services, and have been working steadily during the pandemic. Bob Hahn and Tara Hahn, along with their son and daughter, Alex and Lilly Hahn, all co-own their busy cleaning business. Alex and Lilly also work as technicians doing the bulk of the cleaning.

Professional cleaning of floors, throughout any facility or home, will drastically reduce the threat of cross-contamination or the spread of bacteria and infectious viruses. By providing janitorial hygiene products and services, Mac Daddy’s is an essential business for obvious reasons. Working throughout Hendry, Glades, Collier, and Lee County, they say they have been extremely busy these days, describing a typical day, “Cleaning all day and sometimes into the night, then go home and crash,” Bob says, “We have been very busy as people have taken a bigger interest in keeping their homes free of bacteria lately.”

Originally from Toledo, Ohio, they have lived and operated their business here for 6 years. “We are a multiracial family that have adopted several kids. We have 11 kids. 8 still living at home. We have owned and operated several businesses through our 30 years of marriage. For 25 years we have homeschooled all of our children,” Bob explains, “We originally moved to LaBelle in 2005, then moved to Lee County and then back in 2014. We needed a larger house due to the size of our family.”

When asked about what they like about living here, Bob replied, “Tight family oriented. We had a racially related problem in our neighborhood when we lived in Lee County. We have found that Hendry County has welcomed our multiracial family and they are very protective of their own.”

They purchased the business back in 2014. It was originally started by Mac Skiver, in 2007. “We clean for several businesses and churches even for the County Offices at times. We have hundreds of residential customers in Hendry County. Anyone that has rented a carpet cleaning machine or cleaned grout on their hands and knees with a toothbrush could appreciate the service we provide. We have even cleaned several yachts and even airplanes and limousines,” Bob went on to describe Mac Daddy’s as a “Family business that does our absolute best for our customers and our community.” He added, “You haven’t seen clean, until its Mac Daddy clean!”

Their biggest challenges right now? Bob says, “Making sure the technicians don’t get the virus.” They are very cautious and careful, but are worried about bringing the virus home to the rest of the family. I asked if the community could do anything to make things safer for them, and Bob said, “Please don’t ask us to come into your home if you have experienced symptoms of the Coronavirus.”
