One dead following pursuit in Immokalee

Posted

IMMOKALEE -- Late Wednesday afternoon (May 19), deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office regarding a stolen dump truck heading into Immokalee on State Road 29.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen dump truck but the driver failed to stop and continued to evade law enforcement.

After turning onto New Market Road, the dump truck crashed into one vehicle causing injuries to the driver before crashing into another vehicle and entering Farm Worker Village.

Deputies made additional attempts to stop the vehicle but the driver continued to drive erratically. Law enforcement then shot at the truck before the truck crashed into a canal near the pedestrian bridge at the entrance to Farm Worker Village.

The driver of the stolen dump truck died on scene.

Deputies have not yet released the name of the man who died or any further details.
