Over the past few weeks, we have been highlighting the work of our Florida Exemplary Migrant Award winners. These individuals were all honored at the state level and we could not be more #CCPSProud! This week we continue with the 2020 Migrant Staff Development Employee of the Year — Luz Echeverri.

Echeverri is a Title I compliance specialist for the Department of Federal, State, and Competitive Grants in Collier County Public Schools (CCPS). Through her knowledge and expertise, Echeverri has supported the Migrant Education Program since 2013. She has developed exceptional databases that enable the migrant team and recruiters to monitor and record support for students and families. Echeverri also designs spreadsheets that enable staff to have an understanding of the needs and support provided to migrant families.

Specifically, Echeverri verifies accuracy of services through migrant data logs, provides support to migrant recruitment, and creates monthly rosters that schools use to document the educational services provided by migrant-funded staff. Echeverri makes it her mission to ensure all migrant students are identified and served. She goes above and beyond, always trying to find more efficient ways to track students for recruitment and support.

Echeverri is a valuable member of the #CCPSFamily, not only for her expertise, but also for her kind and gentle spirit. “I enjoy working with the migrant team addressing student needs and making sure they get support services,” shares Echeverri.

With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in business administration from La Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Echeverri moved to the United States in 2003 and completed her accounting operations certificate from Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology while also earning both her IC3 Global Standard Certificate (Internet and Computing Core Certification) and Microsoft Word 2007 certification. A member of the National Technical Honor Society for character and achievement, Echeverri’s plans include obtaining a master’s in accounting.

In addition to her many job-related duties, Echeverri also finds time to volunteer in our schools. She is truly an exceptional staff member, and we are honored to celebrate her accomplishment as the 2020 Migrant Staff Development Employee of the Year.
