Posted

HENDRY COUNTY – Two Immokalee women were killed in a traffic accident on Nov. 5 at 12:23 p.m. on State Road 82.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol Report, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 39-year-old Immokalee woman,  was traveling west in the outside lane. A Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by a 35-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was traveling west on SR 82 in the inside lane, adjacent to and slightly behind the SUV.

The SUV driver attempted to make a left turn toward the median break, the FHP report explains. The front of the pickup collided with the side of the SUV. The SUV rotated and came to rest in the center median. The truck came to rest on the grass shoulder of the road.

The SUV driver was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries. A 47-year-old female passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, according to the report.

SR 82 is a 29-mile-long east–west highway serving northern Lee and Collier County, going through the southwest corner of Hendry County.
