NAPLES — The Women’s Foundation of Collier County (WFCC) has granted $200,000 to several local organizations for homeless senior women rehousing, case management, and young women mentoring, empowerment, and career pathways.

The awardees, Naples Senior Center in partnership with Collier Resource Center, Collier Senior Center, Hunger & Homeless Coalition of Collier County, The Immokalee Foundation, and the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County have projects and initiatives that align with the pillars of the Women Lifting Women (WLW) campaign. The WLW campaign aims to meet the current needs of senior women in our community by assisting homeless senior women in need and addressing isolation concerns. It also funds young women and girls’ scholarships, mentorships, and career development.

Three grants will support senior women’s housing and support programs. A grant to the Naples Senior Center and Collier Resource Center for a joint program will provide and coordinate a broad spectrum of case management services to bridge the gap between struggling seniors and the social service system. The Collier Senior Center received a grant to expand its UPSLIDE social services program that addresses older women’s mental health and isolation needs. The Hunger & Homeless Coalition grant will rehouse homeless senior females by helping with the rehousing portion of our outreach program by providing first, last, and security rental deposits and support services.

The final two grants support middle school girls’ programs. The Immokalee Foundation grant will support their Middle School Girls Career Pathways and Mentoring program. The program introduces a broad range of career choices focused on business management and entrepreneurship, education and human services, engineering, construction management, and healthcare. The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County grant will fund their Junior Women of Initiative program. This unique mentoring partnership with the Women’s Foundation of Collier County helps middle school girls build their self-esteem, confidence, and personal awareness while building vital life skills necessary for future success.

“On behalf of the board of the Women’s Foundation of Collier County, it is a pleasure to be able to announce the awarding of these grants,” said Brenda O’Connor, WFCC board chair. “Our board is especially grateful to our Grants Committee, chaired by Anne Fleming, for their expertise and thoroughness in reviewing the grant proposals. This is just the beginning of the investments our Women Lifting Women campaign will be making to meet the critical needs of both homeless or isolated senior women, as well as empowering young women and girls.”
