Board approves case managers salary bump

Posted

PORT ST. LUCIE — CCKids’ Board of Directors approved a generous salary increase for case management staff during its April meeting.

The raise will bump starting salaries for case managers to $47,000 and includes an additional $2,000 after certification. The move comes on the heels of an unprecedented budget allocation by the Florida Legislature during its 2022 session.

More than $150,000,000 was budgeted for the state’s Community Based Care systems of care - with the understanding that much of it would be used to increase the starting salaries of case managers.

CCKids’ portion of funding amounted to about $339,000 due to a current funding formula that distributes money based on - among other things - the number of children in care. Locally, the number of children entering the child-welfare system has significantly decreased, impacting the amount of new funding for Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast.

In related news, CCKids is one of a handful of Lead Agencies asked to work on a new allocation method that will be presented to lawmakers during the next legislative session.

About $500,000 of carry-forward money (funding left over from the previous year) will be combined with this new funding to pay for the local salary increase, CFO Lauren Hahn said.

The change is expected to take effect in July.
