Indiantown officials encourages community to learn more about and engage with local government

Posted

INDIANTOWN — During Florida City Government Week, October 19-25, cities across the state celebrate, showcase and engage citizens in the work of municipal government. And, as the youngest city in the state (est. 2017), the Village of Indiantown invites the community to connect and learn more about their municipal government.

“Florida City Government week is to highlight how local government enables its citizens to have ‘Home Rule,’ allowing local voices to make local choices that are best for their community. The Florida League of Cities (FLC) is bringing awareness to city government’s role in enhancing the quality of life in communities and encourages citizen engagement and education with FLC President Tony Ortiz’s Building Stronger Cities initiative,” said Indiantown Councilwoman Susan Gibbs Thomas, member of the Florida League of Cities’ Board of Directors, representing the Ninth District.

During this week, officials invite the public to tour the new Village Hall and connect through the Village’s enhanced communication tools: quarterly newsletter, an opt-in email communications system, a monthly e-newsletter, council meetings live streamed and archived, bi-monthly Village Manager Reports, and use of social media (Facebook and NextDoor).

“The people in our community are the heart of our city. Because of our engaged residents and businesses, we have been able to set the stage for many accomplishments in our short time as a city,” said Village Manager Howard Brown. “Our future looks very bright when we come together to work towards the same goal. I encourage the community to continue to stay informed and involved.”
