FORT PIERCE — Indian River State College (IRSC) is preparing to celebrate the accomplishments of its Fall, Summer and Spring 2020 graduates at Commencement ceremonies planned for Dec. 16 and 17. Graduates will be celebrated with traditional pomp and ceremony, including keynote address, recognition of credentials and wearing of regalia, all in the company of their loved ones and fellow graduates. Those attending the Dec. 16 in-person ceremonies will also take their ceremonial walk across the stage.

For the first time in college history, in-person ceremonies will take place “drive-in”-style at the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex. Graduates may fill a car safely—based on the number of seatbelts in the vehicle — with friends and family who will sit alongside them during the ceremony. Graduates will participate in the time-honored tradition of walking across the stage as their name is called to collect their credentials from IRSC officials. Ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. (Associate in Arts) and 3 p.m. (Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science and Bachelor’s) on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Those attending the Dec. 17 virtual ceremony will also experience the traditional elements of a Commencement event. The ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube beginning at 11 a.m. Photos of graduates and a listing of their achievements will appear on screen as names are called. Participants are encouraged to host watch parties with their friends and family, wear their regalia and move their tassel when their degree is conferred.

In addition to these Commencement events, IRSC is launching a celebratory website where all 2020 graduates may upload photos and share sentiments with their fellow graduates. For more information about the website or Commencement activities, visit https://www.irsc.edu/students/graduation.html.
