Publix vaccination appointments fill up quickly; more appointments to be open Wednesday

Posted

Some Florida Publix pharmacies are now distribution points for the COVID-19 vaccine, and appointments fill up quickly. Publix opened the online vaccination registration site at 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, and all of the appointments were quickly booked.

“There is tremendous demand for the vaccine and a limited supply, so check back on Wednesday, Jan. 27 after 6 a.m. for your next opportunity,” the website advised Friday morning.

While there is no county residency requirement, those making appointments must provide proof of Florida residency.

To make an appointment, go online to https://www.publix.com/covid-vaccine/florida.

According to the website, for those vaccinated at a Publix pharmacy, that same pharmacy will provide the second dose, subject to availability. “You will have a second dose available at the same Publix Pharmacy exactly 28 days following your first appointment. Your appointment day and time will match the appointment when you received the first dose. For example, if your first appointment was Jan. 12 at 11 a.m., then your second appointment will be on Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. You will also receive a notification about one week prior to your second appointment,” the website states.

The following Florida residents are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, by appointment only:

• Healthcare personnel with direct patient contact;
• Residents and staff of longterm healthcare facilities;
• Adults aged 65 years and older, and,
• Can provide proof of Florida residency.

Vaccinations are offered at Publix pharmacies in Bay, Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, Escambia, Flagler, Hernando, Lee, Marion, Martin, Monroe, Okaloosa, Palm Beach, Santa Rosa, St. Johns, Volusia and Walton counties.

Appointments can only be made online. Anyone who calls the store or shows up without an appointment will be turned away.

Before booking an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine, it’s important to know current health and safety recommendations from the CDC, the Publix website advises. Some people will not be eligible for vaccination.

• If you have received passive antibody therapy for COVID-19, the CDC recommends waiting at least 90 days after treatment before you are vaccinated.

• If you received another vaccine, such as the flu shot in the last 14 days, the CDC recommends waiting at least 14 days before you are vaccinated for COVID-19.

• If you had a positive test for COVID-19 or if your doctor told you that you had COVID-19, you should check with your doctor about vaccination. Those who have had COVID-19 should wait until they are fully recovered and until criteria have been met to continue isolation. The CDC also states an infected person has a low risk of reinfection for 90 days.

• If you have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you must wait until after your isolation period ends before you are vaccinated.

To prove Florida residency you must show:

• Valid Florida driver license issued by Florida State Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).

OR

• Valid Florida identification card issued by Florida State Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).

OR

• If a customer cannot present a Florida driver license or Florida identification card, the customer can prove satisfactory Florida residency by presenting a copy of any two of the following items if they reflect a Florida residential address (Note: A P.O. box or commercial/business address is not sufficient and the two items cannot be from the same category):
