The Weekly Clothesline: It’s up to us to be aware of God’s purpose and presence

Posted

LABELLE — If you believe that nothing in life happens by accident, you know that God is at work in every part of your life. And, if God is at work, you will be challenged to look at every event, every situation and ask: “Lord, what is your part in this situation… what are you trying to show me… what can I learn from this… is there something you need me to do?” In other words, it’s up to us to be aware of God’s purpose and presence. God’s activity is all around you all the time.

After Jesus’ baptism, a couple of men followed Jesus. He turned around and said, “What are you looking for?” Not “who”… but “what.” If you’re looking for a person, you’re looking for something human, something tangible, and you would use the word “who”. But if you’re looking for a “what”, that means something intangible, like happiness, joy, contentment, purpose, peace… and the list could go on: “What are you looking for?” Jesus said. Eventually those disciples joined Jesus and found exactly what they were looking for.

What are you looking for? Have you found the peace and contentment you desire, or are you still searching? When Jesus ascended into heaven, he left his followers with the charge to make disciples of all nations. I pray that you use your joy and contentment by sharing it with others, so that the world may know you have indeed found what you were looking for!
