INDIANTOWN -- The Martin County Sheriff's Office has identified the two bodies found in a pond in Indiantown. The deceased have been identified as 64-year-old Vincent Vibert Thomas and 47-year-old Ongela Anetra Smith, both of Palm Beach County.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a body floating in a pond at SW Warfield Boulevard and SW Indiantown Avenue. Two bodies were discovered by dectectives at the scene on July 25.
On July 26, MCSO detectives, with the assistance of Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and Martin County Fire Rescue, were able to locate a vehicle in a pond where two individuals were found Monday morning.
The vehicle was located by using sonar equipment provided by Florida Fish and Wildlife. Once detectives were able to determine there was a vehicle in the pond, Martin County Fire Rescue sent in their dive team. MCFR Dive Team located the vehicle and assisted Kauff’s towing in removing it from the pond.
According to reports, the couple had last been seen leaving a wedding in Canal Point on July 23.
In a press statement released July 27, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder explained the couple's car was apparently traveling on Southwest Indiantown Avenue when the car went into the pond.
