HENDRY COUNTY – The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office received a call on Sunday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. from a property owner reporting a man had entered a home on his property and was refusing to leave. It was reported that the subject had various weapons with him.

Hendry County deputies along with Collier Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Thorpe Road in Southwest Hendry County. A portion of this property is divided between Hendry and Collier County.

When deputies arrived on scene, both Hendry and Collier County Special Response Teams along with Collier County Sheriff’s Office professional negotiators were unable to reach a successful conclusion. Approximately 12 hours later, the subject exited the building and began firing at deputies. It was at this time deputies returned fire, leaving the suspect fatally wounded.
