4-H offers virtual clubs

GAINESVILLE — Florida 4-H now has virtual 4-H Clubs dealing with a variety of topics.

Statewide clubs include:

• Digital Dairy: In this virtual dairy club where members can learn about dairy cattle, dairy showmanship and the dairy industry, Club Leaders are Dianne Spann (fdspann@ufl.edu) and Dr. Chris DeCubellis (cdecube@ufl.edu). The club will meet once a month on Zoom on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Meetings should run about an hour and a half.

• Florida 4-H Virtual Horse Club: A monthly virtual club meeting for youth in the horse project or for youth interested in horses is open to 4-Hers ages 8-18. Club Leaders are Amanda Pittman (amorgan133@ufl.edu) and Kelsey Irvine. The club will meet on the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. on Zoom.

• Florida 4-H Virtual Poultry Club: This club is a continuation of the virtual poultry club from this summer’s 4-H Summer Adventures. The club will meet once per month and cover topics related to the 4-H poultry project, poultry science, and explore careers in poultry/livestock and related industries. Club Leaders are Chris DeCubellis (cdecube@ufl.edu) Stephanie Connor, Jose Zayas, Alisha Hutchinson, Marnie Ward, Amanda Pittman, Geralyn Sachs and Noelle Guay. The club will meet once a month on Zoom. Email DeCubellis for meeting information.

• Florida 4-H Virtual Swine Club: This club will meet once per month on Zoom and cover topics related to the 4-H swine project, general animal science, and explore careers in the livestock/ag industry. Club Leaders are Chris DeCubellis (cdecube@ufl.edu) and others to be announced. Meeting dates have not been announced.

• Teen Life Ready Club: The Life Ready virtual club is for youth ages 13-18 and aims to teach “adulting” skills like finding an apartment, creating a personal budget, applying for jobs, practicing home maintenance, and much more. Meetings will also feature career presenters based on the interests of the members. Members will leave each meeting with tangible skills they can use in their transition to adulthood. Club Leaders are Amanda Pittman (amorgan@alachuacounty.us) and Mary Lee Sale (msale@alachuacounty.us) The club will meet on Microsoft TEAMS on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m.

• Young Leaders: 4-Hers are the now and future leaders of their clubs, communities, country and world. Even before adulthood, they have the power to make an impact on your communities. This club is for youth ages 13-18 as of Sept. 1, and will engage members in advancing their leadership and communication skills as they interact with University of Florida faculty and staff. Members will meet once a month via Zoom on the second Tuesday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. Club leaders are Derby Sale (sderby.sale@ufl.edu) and Stacey Ellison (staceye@ufl.edu).

4-H members can enroll online at https://v2.4honline.com/.

• Create a family profile in your county of residence.
• Add a profile for the youth member.
• You will come to a screen with a list of clubs available in your county and the state clubs. You may select as many clubs as you want, including the new statewide virtual clubs.
• Complete the remaining parts of the enrollment.
• You will be prompted to pay a membership fee. (The fee varies slightly by county but typically is between $20-$30 per year).
