A season of what might have been

A season to remember of what might have been may best describe the 2020 Baseball Season at not just LaBelle High School but the nation. Sadly, not just the games but high school careers came to an abrupt end. We dedicate this year to five young men who have worked hard and to no fault of their own had to say goodbye to their high school careers halfway through their senior season.

Trace Burchard and Dillon White gave four years, Anthony Pequeno three, Paul Morrison two and Cutter Cochran came back for his senior year to the varsity program. High expectations were beginning to form with the team after winning their last two games. They beat Lely, in the in-school game, with a walk off home run by Trace and finished the week with an 8-2 win against rival Clewiston. DiIlon pitched a complete game and added a home run to keep the winning streak against Clewiston intact. Paul, Anothony, and Cutter always provided leadership and guidance to the team. They are an integral part of the success of this program with their unending dedication.

The team finished 6-6 in the shortened season. Filling the Senior’s cleats will be a hard task for the returners next year. Juniors: Jacob Howard, Michael Torres, Zach Mann, Lane Hingson, Adam Reinbott, Ethan Holt and Jonathon Munson; Sophomores: Christian Parrish, Colton Bass, Lawson Davidson and Trevor Vahle will have to step it up to replace these young men. With the hard work and dedication that Trace, Dillon, Paul, Anthony and Cutter have established for the Cowboys, the future is bright.

From the bottom of my heart, I am very sorry for this ending the team had to endure. I will miss you Five Seniors. All of the coaches wish it could have been a different ending, and we hope all of the athletes remember we are proud of everything you accomplished. We especially look forward to seeing what the future holds for the Five Seniors. We are also excited about next season and ready to get back to baseball.

Please remember you provided this school and the community some great entertainment and very good baseball and should be proud of your accomplishments. Hold your head high and remember you will always be remembered because of the uniqueness of this year.

Thank you guys for a wonderful season and what might have been.
