CLEWISTON -- Chance Harper, a Clewiston High School freshman, won a college scholarship at Incubate Debate's fourth annual Winter Debate Institute at Broward College on Jan. 3. Harper was selected as the most improved student over the entire camp, recognizing his hard work and dedication.
Incubate Debate hosts no-cost debate tournaments, workshops and camps where students build knowledge, confidence and an appreciation for our nation’s constitution and democracy. Its Winter Debate Institute, now in its fourth consecutive year, is a no-cost camp for middle and high school students to improve their skills in preparation for upcoming Incubate Debates.
The Most Improved Award is given to the student who shows the most growth over the course of the camp, and Harper was chosen for how much he had improved his analysis, research skills, and vocal projection. In addition to the scholarship, Harper earned the respect of his peers and instructors for his hard work and determination.

"Chance grew leaps and bounds, and always has a great attitude. It was a pleasure working with him." said Katherine Collins, his instructor at the institute.
Harper first participated in Incubate Debate when he was in eighth grade at Clewiston Middle School under the guidance of his middle school debate coach, Christian Acosta.
“Chance has worked hard over the past year to improve his skills and it’s incredible to see how much his hard work has paid off," Incubate Debate Founder and Executive Director James Fishback said. "He's blessed with an awesome family who has supported him every step of the way. I can't wait to see what Chance does next.”
