Clewiston Chamber of Commerce announces Hendry Regional Medical Center as the 2020 Business of the Year

Rural hospital receives community recognition

CLEWISTON — On May 11, the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce announced Hendry Regional Medical Center (HRMC) as the 2020 Business of the Year. There was a small gathering of HRMC staff present along with Hillary Hyslope, executive director, and CyNedra Blake, assistant director, both from the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce.

“When our board met to discuss the 2020 business of the year award, it was a quick and unanimous decision. What organization or business did more during 2020 to serve our community than HRMC? While we do wish that we could have honored them at our annual dinner that just was not in the cards this year. With that said we did the best we could to still honor the amazing work that HRMC has done here in our community, and no better time to recognize them than during National Hospital Week.”

Electa Waddell, HRMC Foundation director opened the event. R.D. Williams, HRMC CEO, was pleased to accept the award on behalf of his 300+ person staff. “Hendry Regional is more than just a building; it is a group of people that come together each and every day to meet the needs of not only our community but our surrounding communities as well.” Williams goes on to state that “On March 12, a year ago, Hendry Regional received it’s first COVID positive patient, we didn’t know a lot about COVID but we knew just enough to be scared. Which was a good thing, we were scared enough to protect ourselves and the community.”

Currently Hendry Regional Medical Center has shifted their focus to administering COVID vaccines and that will continue to be a priority moving forward. “We are so thankful to have high-quality health care in our rural community both as a resource and as a community partner,” said Hillary Hyslope.
