Embark on a Journey of Discovery

The Hubble Space Telescope Exhibition at the IMAG

Posted

FORT MYERS — The IMAG History & Science Center announces the opening of its new exhibition, A Retrospective: 30 Years of Discovery celebrating the art and science of the Hubble Space Telescope along with its images of beauty and splendor gathered from outer space. As part of its “Inspiration Takes Flight” programs, exhibits, and events, the IMAG is presenting a series of spacious murals of constellations, nebulas, supernovas, star clusters, and more in its gallery. In this collection of space murals is an image of the brightest of star-forming regions in our galactic neighborhood, 30 Doradus, which is one of the largest mosaics ever assembled from the Hubble Telescope. Also included in this collection is the stunning, magnificent image of the Crab Nebula, a neutron-star remnant from a supernova explosion which occurred a thousand years ago, 6,500 light-years from Earth.

In addition to the murals of the Hubble Space Telescope, visitors can learn more about the famous telescope through educational panels and images including photos of the Hubble floating gracefully above the Earth as well as photos of astronauts on various missions over the years servicing the space telescope. Also of interest is a schematic illustration of the component parts of the Hubble as well as a diagram illustrating how the Hubble captures images and transmits that information along its data path to Hubble tracking and data satellites. Added to this collection of Hubble Space Telescope murals, visitors can also explore other spectacular Hubble space photos as part of the Be The Astronaut Exhibit which is also currently at the museum. The IMAG History & Science Center acknowledges and appreciates Carbon Press of Fort Myers for their generous support in making the Hubble Space Telescope Exhibition come to life.

Come, be inspired, and explore stars and nebulas, exoplanets, galaxies, and other cosmic wonders at the IMAG. For more information on the Hubble Space Telescope Exhibition and other “Inspiration Takes Flight” programs, events, and activities, go online to theIMAG.org or call 239-243-0043. The IMAG History & Science Center is located on planet Earth at 2000 Cranford Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33916.
