Kaitlyn Pringle started dreaming of running her own business while she was in high school. While taking a business class, she helped start and run Bakers Bubbles Car Washing Service. Her class worked in all capacities of the car wash business, learning everything about what it takes to start, manage, and operate a business. Kaitlyn enjoyed this class so much, she decided to take it a step farther when she found another class, making ink pens. Her mother and business advisor, Mary Pringle, explains, “We put the two together, and Kaitlyn, upon graduation, ordered the kit to make pens.”

Incidentally, her mother says, “When she joined Ida Baker High School they were resistant to her being in the class. It was mainly boys and the boys who were struggling with FCAT, and thought they would appear as a different class if she joined. Walls were up high and strong at first, but I advocated equally as strong to secure her seat in this class that was perfect for her.” Mary goes on to say, “Once school was underway the teacher called me to say this was the best decision. That the boys look at Kaitlyn as their little sister. Class attendance improved, home work turn-in improved, and class moral improved.” This was all due to having Kaitlyn join their class. Kaitlyns teacher, the one who helps their class develop the Baker Bubbles Business Class, received the Golden Apple Award and was promoted to district level. “He is an amazing person who was able to look outside the box for all to learn, opening a future that otherwise might not have happened,” Mary praises.

“Kaitlyn enjoys watching a tube of plastic transform into a design people get excited over. She is proud of her inventory and beams when she is out selling. For her it isn’t about the money, it is about pride in something she has accomplished, people praise her for. Not to say she doesn’t want to spend her own money like all young adults do,” says Mary.

Her business is named, Friends Making Pens, and is based in LaBelle. She makes the pens in various shapes and colors, and says they make great gifts. She has recently started making holiday themed pens as well. She has been working on some big orders, as these locally made pens have become quite the popular item.

If you’d like to order from Friends Making Pens, you can email Kaitlyn at kaitlynpringle@icloud.com or text her at 239-205-0520. She will be set up at the LDRC Free concert on the first Friday of the month, which is held on Fort Thompson.
