According to AAA, Florida hit a record high for gas prices in May with an average of $4.49 per gallon, while the current average gas price in Florida is $3.22 per gallon.

On Oct. 4, according to gasbuddy.com, gas prices in Okeechobee ranged from $3.03 at Murphy USA to $3.14 at the Marathon Station on SR 710.

In Hendry County, gas prices ranged from $3.07 per gallon at Citgo in LaBelle to $3.39 at Marathon in Montura Ranch.

In Glades County, according to gasbuddy.com, on Oct. 4 prices ranged from $2.92 at Brighton Trading Post to $3.21 at the Shell station in Moore Haven. Gas at the Love’s Travel Stop on U.S. 27 was $3.06 per gallon.

The gas tax holiday is part of the tax relief provided by Florida House Bill 7071, which was signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis on May 6.

The bill also included Back-to-School and Disaster Preparedness holidays, as well as:

  • A 7-day Freedom Week from July 1 to July 7, 2022, providing a sales tax exemption for specified admissions and items related to recreational activities, providing $70.6 million in tax relief; and,
  • A one-year Energy Star Appliances sales tax holiday from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023, for washing machines, clothes dryers, water heaters, and refrigerators, providing $78.5 million in tax relief.
