Local artists gather ‘en plein air’

Posted

LaBelle - A new gathering of artists has been organized for those interested in Plein Air painting. The group will meet twice a month, outside, to chat about art, develop techniques, and strengthen community bonds. Most are artists at the Barron Park House Gallery, but anyone is welcome to join.

En plein air is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and refers to painting outdoors with the artist’ssubject in full view. This group is a casual social gathering, and they encourage any age or level of experience to come.

“We plan to get together every second and fourth Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. til 12:30 p.m. Each time we’ll pick a new location. Our goal is to get creative, share ideas and make new friendships!” said Barbara Swift, a local artist and organizer of the new painting group. “Can’t wait until our next one on February 18th. We are meeting at Ft. Thompson St. and Main St. in LaBelle. Come join us at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome!”

The Barron Park House Gallery & Gift Shop is housed in the historic Christie House which was built around 1914, located at 471 N. Lee Street, in LaBelle. Currently the gallery and gift shop hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There is no admission fee for visitors interested in checking out the monthly rotating exhibit of oil, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media paintings, sculptures, and photos, from local artists.
