LABELLE — The Aktion Club of Hendry County was awarded a $5,000 grant from the The David and Donna Batelaan Fund during a ceremony held at the Angel Center on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

As her role of Kiwanis of LaBelle president, this is Mary Pringle’s last achievement during her term. The Rev. Alonzo McKenzie is the president-elect.

“I am very proud of the Aktion Club and honored to be a part of it. I will be very much involved with the Aktion Club for many years,” said Pringle. “I will stand by in support as Rev. Makenzie takes the reins on Oct. 1, and I know he will accomplish great things.”

The purpose of the The David and Donna Batelaan Fund is to award grants to a Florida Kiwanis club or division in order to support leadership development for young people with physical disabilities and to encourage participation and inclusion for young people with physical disabilities within Kiwanis.

The Aktion club’s motto is: “Where development has no disability.” They are a club that is committed to a vision of developing competent, capable, caring leaders through the vehicle of service and a mission to provide adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities.

The grant will be used to support the Aktion Club’s activities, from transportation expenses such as fuel, vehicle maintenance and insurance, as well as food and supplies for activities and fundraisers, and then even to purchase passes or tickets for admission into various educational events.

The Angel Center, the building where the club’s events are held, supports the Aktion Club and is located at 140 Jaycee-Lions Drive, LaBelle, 33935 — and the center is available to engage for events. For more information, please call 239-872-4778.
