LABELLE — The Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) hosted their 10th Annual Brian Haas Memorial Golf Tournament in Clewiston on Jan. 16, 2021.

On March 10, 2021, Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden and his hardworking volunteers gathered at the HCSO in LaBelle presented Brian's parents, Bob and Norie Haas, a check in the amount of $20,841.72 for the Brian Haas Criminal Justice Scholarship Charitable Trust.

Deputy Brian Haas was just 21-years-old when he was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a prowler call in Montura. He had served as a road deputy for five months, and had served with the Hendry County Sheriff’s Department for 2 years.

“In honor of their son Brian, Bob and Norie [Haas] created the Brian Haas Criminal Justice Scholarship Charitable Trust in May 2004, to provide scholarships to Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Employees, Explorers and Volunteers who wish to further their education in the field of Criminal Justice,” the HCSO explained. “As of today, the total Scholarship Awarded is close to $150,000.00. These funds have been used to put young men and women thru the Law Enforcement Academy, travel, college tuition's, Explorer Competition and Advanced Training, to name a few.”

Bob and Norie Haas thanked the HSCO for their hard work and support, especially HR Director Cindy West and Deputy Jerry Perez, for their dedication to making the tournament special. They are looking forward to making next year’s tournament even more successful.
