Port St. Lucie man dies in crash on State Road 80

HENDRY COUNTY — A 54-year-old Port St. Lucie man died in a vehicle crash on State Road 80 in Hendry County on April 14, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred at 10:05 a.m.

According to the FHP report, a box truck was traveling west on State Road 80, in the outside lane, approximately one half mile west of County Road 833.

A disabled flatbed truck was stopped on the north shoulder and outside lane of State Road 80, approximately one half mile west of County Road 833. The box truck driver slowed and swerved to avoid the disabled vehicle, but the front right portion of box truck collided with the rear left portion of the flatbed truck. The box truck continued west, crossed the grass median and overturned. The box truck driver, a 54-year-old Port St. Lucie man, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The flatbed truck driver, a 56-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was not injured, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.
