Relay for Life is a success despite pandemic

LABELLE – This year has had many disappointments, including cancellations of some of LaBelle’s favorite annual events and gatherings. LaBelle Relay for Life was one of those events. Cancer patients and survivors who traditionally participate in the event may have weakened immune systems. Caretakers also must be extremely cautious, so canceling events due to the pandemic was necessary.

Donations made to Relay For Life go to cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy. The pandemic made fundraising more difficult, but determined local supporters remained focused, and made a valiant effort to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS), despite the challenges.

“Even though we were not able to have a physical relay event this year, we were able to raise over $62,000! My heart is full from the love, hard work and commitment that each and every team member of Relay For Life of LABELLE put into making this happen,” stated Vicki Reynolds, long time Relay for Life of LaBelle organizer.

She posted an update on their official Facebook page, “Thank you to our community for always saying yes! Thank you to every sponsor that purchased track markers.

“Cancer has not slowed down one bit but fundraising has. ACS has taken a big hit because of COVID and many programs will be affected,” the she continued, “Relay For Life LaBelle will forge ahead into 2021 season, not knowing what that will look like but knowing why we relay.”

If your business or group of friends would like to have a team for 2021 season please contact Vicki Reynolds for more info. 863-234-2405.
