Tacos aren’t just for Tuesdays

LABELLE - Every year there is somewhat of a competition to find the most perfect Valentine’s Day gift, in order to woo your sweetheart. From heart shaped T-bone steaks to glitter dipped strawberries, unique gift ideas have popped up all over social media sites, causing quite a stir. Some of these romantic, often quirky, gift ideas have even gone viral, being shared by thousands even millions of people.

One popular but peculiar Valentine’s fad that has reached the small town of LaBelle is the taco valentine. In lieu of chocolates or roses, a heart-shaped platter, loaded with tacos and salsa, has become a local favorite gift.

“It’s such a sweet and different way for someone to show their affection,” said Phyllis Turner, a long time LaBelle resident and lover of tacos. “It really is my all time favorite thing to get from my partner.”

This February, local restaurants, like Paleteria La Victoria and Taqueria Jalepeños, are offering valentine taco platters.
“It’s truly perfect timing, with the pandemic causing so many of us to stay safe at home instead of risking going out to a romantic dinner for two at our favorite restaurants,” said Jeff Marshall, who is a regular at La Victoria. “These taco platters make things fun, even though things have been so different and difficult since the COVID.”

Jalapeños will begin taking orders on February 3 and will do so until February 13. All you have to do is bring your heart shaped plate or box, and they will fill it with however many tacos you order. They are located at 1100 S.R. 29 S. in LaBelle. Orders can be placed by calling 863-342-8912.

La Victoria, located at 155 Cowboy Way, is offering the heart shaped platters with your choice of tacos, quesadillas, and even hot wings and fries. They also offer birthday taco platters that come in the shape of numbers. They can be reached by calling 863-674-7146.
