Two die, two critically injured in State Road 80 crash UPDATE: 13-year-old crash victim dies in hospital

HENDRY COUNTY – A 42-year-old LaBelle man and a 14-year-old LaBelle girl were killed in an auto accident around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, a sedan driven by a 38-year-old Alva woman was traveling east on State Road 80 at a high rate of speed, west of County Road 78A (Fort Denaud Road) in the outside lane, just before the crash. A sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 42-year-old LaBelle man was backing out of a driveway onto eastbound State Road 80.

The front portion of the sedan collided with the right rear portion of the SUV, the FHP report continued.

The SUV overturned, ejecting the driver and the 14-year-old passenger. Both died at the scene. The SUV came to final rest, overturned, in the area of collision. A second passenger in the SUV, a 13-year-old-girl, remained inside the vehicle.

The sedan continued traveling east after collision and came to final rest facing east. The sedan came to final rest overturned, in the area of collision.

The driver of the sedan and 13-year-old passenger from the SUV were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, where both were listed in critical condition on Thursday.   The 13-year-old died on Sunday, according to reports.

The crash remains under investigation. Tpr. G. Zimmerly is the crash investigator. FHP Cpl. T. McGowan is the homicide investigator.
