Veterans Day events planned across several counties

Veterans Day honors American veterans for their devotion, patriotism, selfless service, and sacrifice. Here is a compiled list of events paying tribute to veterans:

Okeechobee County

Free lunch for veterans
OKEECHOBEE — The VFW Post 10539, 3912 U.S. 441, will be hosting lunch FREE to veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from noon to 3 p.m.

Veterans’ service to be held
OKEECHOBEE — A short prayer service for veterans will take place at the entrance of American Legion #64, 501 S.E. Second St., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Glades County

Veterans Day dinner served
BUCKHEAD RIDGE — VFW Post 9528, 29012 E. State Road 78, Buckhead Ridge, will recognize Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., with a prime rib beef ribs dinner, baked beans, and fries. A short ceremony honoring military veterans will follow the dinner.

Ortona ceremony canceled
ORTONA — The Ortona Veterans Ceremony planned for Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Otona Cemetery pavilion has been canceled due to Tropical Storm Eta. They will be participating in Wreaths Across America on Nov. 19. Wreaths are $15 each or three for $30. You can drop off money for wreaths at the VFW Post 9528 in Buckhead Ridge at 29012 SR 78, Okeechobee.

Virtual Veterans Day
MOORE HAVEN — In lieu of a traditional Veterans Day Ceremony, Moore Haven Middle-High School will be honoring those who have served with a special video presentation. The video will be posted on the school’s Facebook page and YouTube page At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and will include a photo slideshow of Glades County veterans and active duty service members.

Hendry County

Veterans Day service planned
CLEWISTON — A Veterans Day Service is planned in Clewiston Civic Park on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend. Covered seating will be available. Please wear a mask and observe health and safety precautions. The service will be hosted by the Clewiston High School Public Service Academy. Lt. Todd Polk of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be a guest speaker at the event.

VFW hosts veterans events
LABELLE — The VFW Post 10100 will hosts a ceremony at Veteran’s Park, 26 E. Hickpochee Ave., on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11:11 a.m. Then at noon, it will host a BBQ to feed veterans for free back at the post, 20 Veteran’s Way.

Palm Beach County

Veterans Day service planned
PAHOKEE — City hall will be closed Wednesday in observance of the Veterans Day national holiday. Please join the City of Pahokee, Mayor Keith W. Babb, Vice Mayor Clara Murvin, Commissioners Benny L. Everett III, Felisia Hill and Regina Bohlen, the city manager, Chandler Williamson, and the city staff for their Virtual Veterans Day Program, to be at 11 a.m. event, as they honor veterans for their dedicated sacrifice and service to our country. Anyone can watch the program, to be aired and later posted on the City of Pahokee’s official Facebook Page.
