HENDRY COUNTY — For those looking to improve their career options. Hendry County Workforce Development (HCWD) has new classes starting in January for HVAC & CNA Nursing.

“The HVAC program provides rigorous content designed to build skills in heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation. The program is designed to reinforce analytical and safety skills,” the website states. For three years, the HVAC program instructor, Cecil Harris, who has 30 plus years of experience in HVAC has taken pride in teaching this program. He worked in the Hendry County Schools Maintenance Department for nine years working primarily on HVAC related projects. Harris has also worked for the Corps of Engineers and as a welder for U.S. Sugar.

“A certified nursing assistant’s (CNA) main role is to provide basic care to patients, as well as assist them in daily activities they might have trouble with on their own, such as bathing. Because of the personal nature of the job, a certified nursing assistant job description must include people skills and the ability to be compassionate and enjoy helping others. In nursing or long-term care facilities, a CNA is often a patient’s main caregiver,” the HCWD website states. This program’s instructor is to be announced.

To attend a program at, you must be a resident of Hendry County and be at least 18 years old. However, if you are under 18 you may apply for a waiver. The waiver must be signed by the Superintendent.

These programs have limited room available, classes fill up quickly. Tuition depends on the particular program. In some cases there is no tuition, or the tuition may be covered by a grant or donor.

HCWD urges prospective students to check to see that the classes they are interested in are not already full, and that the class isn’t past the final signup date. If you have any questions please call 863-983-1511.
