A 71-year-old Immokalee woman was killed in a hit-and-run around 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Margarita Gonzalez-Martinez was in the eastbound lane of Lake Trafford Road, west of Krystal Lane in Immokalee, in the path of a vehicle that struck her on the side.
After the collision, the vehicle fled the scene eastbound on Lake Trafford Road. The driver did not stop to render aid as required by Florida law, according to FHP.
The vehicle that struck Gonzalez-Martinez is possibly a Mercury passenger car with damage to the front left bumper and front left headlight.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver is asked to contact Cpl. G. Cornier at 239-344-1730.
