PAHOKEE — This Sunday, Healthier Glades will continue to partner with Florida Atlantic University’s College of Nursing and the faith-based community to address brain health, the organization announced on its Facebook page Friday. Their goal is to bring this resource to the local churches in the Glades. The first session is this Sunday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belle Glade, 17 N.W. Avenue B. It will include free education and screening for residents 50 or older by the Diabetes Coalition, plus diabetes risk assessments including on-site rapid-result A1C tests, which the coalition says is the “gold standard” for measuring glucose in the blood, with no fasting necessary. They will be following CDC guidelines for masks and social distancing. Participants will receive a Winn Dixie gift card for a reward. If anyone would like for Healthier Glades to bring brain health and A1C screenings to their church, email email@example.com so that Executive Director Annie Ifill can forward your information to the committee. Next week, Dec. 13, they will be at First Haitian Baptist Church.
