A 41-year-old Golden Gate Estates man who detectives say was shooting a handgun in his backyard Sunday, December 30, 2018 was arrested after one of the bullets struck a neighbor inside her residence. Juan Arreguin, 2980 6th Ave. S.E., is charged with one count of shooting a missile into a dwelling, a felony, and one count of discharging a firearm in public, a misdemeanor.Juan Arreguin arrest mug Around 12:20 p.m. deputies responded to a residence in the 2900 block of 8th Avenue Southeast in reference to a report of a woman with a possible gunshot wound. The 21-year-old victim appeared to have injuries to her right arm and right side. She told deputies that she was sitting at the dinner table, which is next to a window, when there was a loud crash at the window and she felt something strike her right arm and side. Deputies discovered a hole in the window adjacent to where the victim was sitting and a bullet on the floor, approximately 8-10 feet away from her. The victim told deputies that right before she got injured she heard gunshots coming from the residence directly in back of her property. The victim was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released. Further investigation by detectives revealed that Arreguin had been shooting at a target – a bottle set up against packed down mulch – with his Ruger 40 S&W handgun right before deputies arrived. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reminds the community that firing a weapon in a yard is a violation of the law if it is done negligently or recklessly.
