IMMOKALEE - Immokalee High School basketball coach and math teacher Travis Jordan Westberry was arrested by deputies on Tuesday following an allegation of inappropriate behavior.
According to the incident report obtained from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies at Immokalee High School were made aware of an alleged incident between Westberry and another student.
Due to the nature of the allegation, investigators with the Special Victims Unit responded and met with the victims.
According to the report, the victim met Westberry in September of 2020 and shortly after began texting one another. Westberry later sent a "follow" request to the victim on Instagram, the same app that he used to send the victim a photo of his penis in December. Westberry advised the victim that it was a “mistake” and that the photo was not meant for her.
The victim stated that Westberry then sent several more photos of his penis via Instagram messenger with the latest being sent last week during Spring Break. The victim stated that she deleted those images but was able to show several messages to investigators where Westberry said that he loved the victim and just wanted what was in her best interest.
When Westberry met with investigators, he admitted to the allegations and stated that he has a “sex addiction” and has previously sought therapy. Westberry also stated that his wife was aware of his addiction and told him not to teach young females.
According to arrest reports obtained from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Westberry was charged with one count of transferring electronic material to a minor.
Collier County Public Schools advised that once they learned about the allegation and Westberry’s arrest, they took immediate action.
“On March 23, 2021, the district became aware of allegations of wrongful conduct involving an employee, Travis Westberry. The school administration notified the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. The district determined that it was appropriate to terminate the employee effective immediately,” said Jennifer Kupiec, Communications Specialist with CCPS.
Westberry was hired by CCPS in 2016 and according to his Facebook page, Westberry previously worked as an Assistant Coach at Santa Fe College.
Westberry remains in custody at the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
