Anita Muñoz-Trejo, a graduate of Immokalee High School’s class of 2014, has been an involved community member for many years and is currently working with local non-profit organizations, Florida Dreamcatchers and One by One Leadership Foundation, to give back to Immokalee through mentorship.

Most recently, Anita graduated from FGCU with a major in Community Health and was captain of her Cross Country team. Prior to joining the local non-profits, Anita worked for the Florida Department of Health as a specialist assessing the quality of life in Everglades City. It was there she realized her aspirations were to work more directly with individuals. With dreams to complete PA School to help fight and prevent noncommunicable diseases, she recognizes there is a lack of knowledge in Immokalee and wants to educate and empower individuals to improve their health and well-being.

Through attending One by One Leadership Foundation’s Mentor Day event last October, she discovered Dreamcatchers, a unique and comprehensive long-term youth mentoring organization. She has helped students discover their passions and give them hope, having walked in the same shoes as so many of them. “I really like this program, there are minimal requirements to participate, and the students have the opportunity to stretch themselves outside of their comfort zone,” said Anita.

Mentorship is something Anita feels is very important. She believes young people need caring adults in their lives.Florida Dreamcatchers and the One by One Leadership Foundation are incredibly grateful for the knowledge, compassion, and drive Anita brings to their organizations.
