INDIANTOWN -- An Indiantown woman was injured on Jan. 9 when she was struck by a bullet that apparently came from someone target shooting on a neighboring property.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Buckthorn Avenue at 3:44 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9.

Deputies were able to interview the shooting victim, Heather Sitton, who stated she was in her yard when she felt a bullet strike her in the left shoulder. She told deputies there were several people target shooting on the adjacent property and she believed they unintentionally shot her. During this interview, someone was applying pressure to the wound. Sitton was treated by Martin County Fire/Rescue and was transported by St. Lucie County Trauma Hawk to Lawnwood Hospital.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office made contact with four men who were on the adjacent property. They were identified as Brian Susu of Lake Worth, Augustin Audette of Pompano Beach, Johnathan Vega of Lake Worth and Juan Susu of Lake Worth.

Audette was in possession of a semi-automatic firearm, which he placed on the ground. Audette said his other firearms were on the table, which was located to the left of where he was standing. Brian Susu told the officers his firearms were also on the table. Jonathan Vega and Juan Susu said they did not own any firearms.

Audette claimed he had obtained permission to shoot on the property from a person who works for the property owners.

A paper target and makeshift stanchion was observed to the west, indicating shots were being fired in a westward direction, towards the home of Heather Sitton. A small berm was directly behind the makeshift stanchion, the report continues.

Property owner Brian Grant stated he did not give permission for the four men to be present on his property or to shoot on his property. Grant told officers he spoke to his employees who informed him they never gave permission for the four men to be on the property or to shoot on the property.

All four men admitting shooting the same AK-47 rifle which apparently fired the bullet which struck Sitton.

The case is still under investigation.
