Since Hurricane Irma made landfall in Collier County just over a month ago, local residents, organizations, and stakeholders have been working hard to help Immokalee residents recover. Now that the dust is beginning to settle and the community enters the recovery phase, some of those key players have had a chance to meet with other local leaders in order to develop a solid plan of action for when the next disaster strikes. The Immokalee Unmet Needs Coalition is working hard to formally establish an organization and develop a network of resources that residents can turn to for assistance. Although the group is in the early stages of development, the group is pushing for focused growth that helps meet the needs of those in the community. In fact, the group is openly inviting the public to its next meeting on Monday, October 23, starting at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held at the coalition’s distribution center located at 2050 Commerce Avenue Unit 7 in Tradeport Technology Park. The group is also inviting professionals who might be able to provide helpful insight on unmet needs in the community. While it is beneficial to have local professionals at the table, the group is also wanting to hear from those who call southwest Florida their home. Some of those key players may include lawyers, physicians, business owners, land owners, clergy, educators, public safety professionals, and social service representatives.
