IMMOKALEE — The Immokalee Soccer School finished another great season with a weekend-long celebration.
The final practice (May 30th) was led by friends of the Immokalee Soccer School, former professional players from Mexico: Angel “Rambo” Sosa, Armando Tavira, Diego Martinez, Emilio Herrera, and Erick “Superman” Marin. Long-time soccer photographer Agustin Herrera was also in attendance, as well as many other Immokalee Soccer School supporters, including lawyer Travis J. McConnell who funded the purchase of the soccer school van.
The kids had a blast working with their special coaches for the day and the adults had a fun time too.
By the end, it was hard to get the adults to stop playing! Family members and other supporters were invited to attend practice to meet the special visitors and lunch was catered by Mr. Taco.
After lunch the former pros went to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers’ radio station, 107.7 Radio Conciencia, to participate in a talk show and later to the Golden Gate Community Center to play in a game of futsal against the Naples Futsal Stars.
Sunday, May 31, was an awards luncheon for the families of Immokalee Soccer School.
Everyone had a chance to take pictures or ask for autographs and mingle. Next came lunch, sponsored by phone company, Alodiga, and catered by Zacatecas Restaurante y Taqueria.
As the day went on speeches were given, awards were presented to supporters, and finally every child was called up by name to receive his/her trophy and medal and walk down a line of supporters for a congratulatory hand shake. It was a beautiful day to spend together, celebrating this great program and its players.
