Great things are always happening at our schools and I would like to take a moment to showcase a few special events. Students, families, and staff enjoyed a fun night last week at the Immokalee Middle School Fall Festival. In addition to great food and exciting games, everyone loved the fabulous performance by Mr. Barton and his band students. Several students and staff showcased their spooky spirit by dressing in fun costumes. Speaking of spookiness, you will definitely want to check out our new Cruz’n with Science show that just debuted on The Education Channel (Comcast channel 99). Mr. Cruz is a talented teacher at Village Oaks Elementary School who loves to do cool and sometimes dangerous science experiments to answer student questions about the world we live in. Eden Park Elementary School held a very successful Family Literacy Night last week with more than half of the school’s families in attendance. Principal Linda Salazar tells me that the fifth grade homeroom classes had 100% of their classes in attendance. Awesome! Highlands Elementary School is inviting families to join in on the 2K Family Turkey Trot to be held on Saturday, November 14. The fun run will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on the Highlands Elementary field. There will be a contest for the best turkey outfit and the winner will get a free turkey dinner. The cost is $10 which includes a t-shirt. Contact the school at (239) 377-7100 to get signed up. Finally, Pinecrest Elementary School will also be holding a great event on Saturday, November 14. Saturday Open Media will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event give students and their parents a chance to check out books and share their learning as a family.
