Immokalee High School’s Lacrosse team has one of the highest GPAs in the school. Last season, the team celebrated its fourth straight winning season and, again, played for the District Championship. With its success both academically and on the field, you would think that the team was well equipped for another successful new season. However, that wasn’t the case…until now.
“Immokalee’s Lacrosse team was in great need of new uniforms and helmets,” states Coach Scott Rickard. “The team’s current black helmets have been worn for three seasons. Since their purchase, there have been advances in helmet technology that make newer helmets much safer.”
Rickard began reaching out to the local community and beyond to make new helmets a reality for his players. He also hoped to purchase new uniforms to replace the ones the team had worn the past four seasons. The uniforms are sleeveless and require undershirts to be worn during games. The shirts help to identify the student-athletes when they wear them to school or out in public.
“Many of the teams in our county have team shirts for their players. We wanted to be able to provide the same to our student-athletes,” adds Rickard.
Just last week, the team was $600 shy of its goal on DonorsChoose.org. The community, with Rickard at the helm, rallied together to fully fund new uniforms and helmets for Immokalee’s Lacrosse team!
“I’m so thankful for the support we received,” shares Richard. “This game provides a great opportunity to help our student-athletes grow as young men. They represent our school with pride and play the game with passion.”
