Let’s talk about something special that happened just before school started. The community came together to provide a very special thank you to Immokalee’s teachers and first responders.
Through a project supported by the Benison Center and World Vision, 1,200 care packages were assembled for distribution to individuals that service the communities of Immokalee and Everglades City. Representatives from organizations such as Delta Kappa Gamma, the Immokalee Kiwanis Club, the Immokalee High School (IHS) football team, the Soccer Pit Cobras, the IHS BETA Club, Guadalupe Center, Collier County Public Schools, and the Benison Center rolled up their sleeves to ensure the kits were packed with care.
Items for the event were provided by World Vision USA and Midwest Food Bank, Florida Division. A special thank you goes to Bethel Church for making its gymnasium available for storing and packing the kits and to the Immokalee Culinary Accelerator for storing the chocolates in its cooler until packing day.
All kits were delivered to the schools and first responders on Wednesday, July 24, so they could be placed in staff mailboxes as a thank you for everything they do for Immokalee and Everglades City.
