Workshops planned in November

NAPLES — Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau provides population counts, and Collier County uses this data to redraw County Commission district boundaries, a process known as “redistricting.” Collier County has five Commission districts. One County Commissioner is elected by residents within each district to represent them on the Board of County Commissioners. The purpose of redistricting is to modify the boundaries to achieve population equity among the five districts.

The 2020 population data required to accomplish redistricting was released from the U.S. Census Bureau on Aug. 12, 2021. The Census Bureau released the same data in easier-to-use formats in September of this year. Collier County staff members have been analyzing the population data to provide alternative district maps (a minimum of three will be drawn).

Five public meetings will be held to review proposed changes to the district boundaries for the Collier County Board of County Commissioners and District School Board of Collier County and to provide an opportunity for questions and/or comments by the public after a brief staff presentation. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m. and are open to the public, regardless of the district in which anyone resides. Wearing of facemasks is encouraged but not required. The meeting locations are listed below.

Anyone who would prefer to attend virtually may access the meetings via Facebook Live by visiting “Collier County, Florida” on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CollierGov. Those without a Facebook account can still access the Live meetings at the link provided by scrolling down to the Live video, or by clicking “Not Now” if prompted with an account sign-in popup.
