Big O Open announces May winners

OKEECHOBEE — The “Big O Open” held its May 2021 Tournament, in Memory of Les Tory, launching out of Okee-Tantie with 27 teams participating in a nice day of friendly competition.

• This month’s first place winner was Norris Newhouse with an impressive 26.26 pounds.
• Second place was Kail Stevens with 17.98 pounds
• Third place was Danny Garcia and Cody Wright with 17.14 pounds.

• Fourth place went to Matt Johnson and Chandler Cornelius with 15.72 pounds.
• Fifth place went to Taylor Renney and Joe Stowell with 15.44 pounds.
• Sixth place went to Bob DuPree and Dan Hinkelman with 15.24 pounds.
• Seventh place went to Allan and Doug Powell with 15.16 pounds and Big Fish weighing 6.96 pounds.

Cash prizes were awarded for first through fifth place and first Big Fish. Sixth and seventh place and second Big Fish received gift cards generously donated by our 3 local tackle shops, Okeechobee Fishing Headquarters, Garrards Bait & Tackle, and Fast Break.  

Future tournaments will be held the second Saturday of each month to begin at Safe Light with weigh-in at 1 p.m. at Okee-Tantie. The cost to participate is $50 per boat (2 person) team with 90% payout and the remaining 10% of this cost is donated to our local teen anglers club, the Big O Teen Anglers.

Also note that the group has started Wednesday evening tournaments at Scott Driver. Tournaments begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. The cost is $25 per boat (2 person) plus an optional $5 Big Fish pot.
