Brahman Band hosting free performance at OHS

OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman Band is hosting a special performance of this year’s show, ‘Catch Me If You Can’ at OHS on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

Attendance is free, however concessions will be available for purchase. Funds raised by the concessions go to support the Brahman Band with costs related to travel, uniforms and instrument repairs. The show will also feature a special performance in recognition of U.S. military veterans.

In October the Brahmans earned a Straight Superior Rating at the District 13 Marching Band Music Performance Assessment held at Jensen Beach High School.

The band program at OHS made history last year when they competed at the Florida Marching Band Championships on Nov. 20 and 21.

After performing in the semifinals in 2021, the Brahmans were chosen to move on to the finals. Over 60 of the best bands from around Florida participated in Okeechobee’s 5A semifinal and only 32 were selected for finals.

Okeechobee finished in fifth place and a score of 80.8 for the season, the highest the program has ever earned.

Band director Clint LaFlam said at the time that making the Florida Marching Band Championship Finals had been something that he had been looking forward to ever since the Brahmans started being a competitive band.

“I have had some great groups over the past 15 years,” said LaFlam after the performance in the 2021 championship. “Putting the focus on show design and visual elements has helped raise our scores this year. Our band has always had a great sound, but now we have raised the bar visually.”

This year’s show, ‘Catch Me If You Can’, is visually impressive as well and should be a treat for those in attendance.

The Brahman Band has consistently been competitive throughout LaFlam’s tenure at the head of the program. It is also one of the largest organizations on campus at OHS.
