OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity basketball team advanced to the district semifinal on Feb. 8 where they battled the Satellite Scorpions in a hard fought battle.

Satellite jumped out to a decent lead over the Brahmans in the first half, 30-21. But a great rally in the third quarter by Okeechobee brought them within three pints, trailing just 44-41. The Scorpions did just enough to edge out the win with a gritty fourth quarter performance to defeat the Brahmans 57-50, and advance to the championship.

Previously in the district tournament, the Brahmans handily defeated Fort Pierce Westwood 62-33 in the quarterfinal. Okeechobee really dominated all aspects of the game, and were able to hand Westwood their third defeat at the hands of the Brahmans this season.  Senior Corey Wilkerson and sophomore Oliver Saunders each had 15 points in the victory for Okeechobee.

Previously Okeechobee defeated Westwood 42-32 on Dec. 2 and 54-40 on Dec. 13. In their first matchup, senior Braydon Reynolds led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Saunders with 11. Saunders also led the team in rebounds, while senior Bryce Ward had a team leading five steals.

In their second game it was more of the same for Okeechobee. Reynolds had 20 points in the Dec. 13 game, followed by Saunders with 11. Saunders also led the team in rebounds and steals, with eight and three respectively. Senior Luke Bryan had five blocks in the rematch.

With the loss to Satellite the Brahmans season now ends with Okeechobee finishing with a 11-16 record this year. Saunders ended the season with an average of 7.6 rebounds per game, which is the highest in Okeechobee district. Saunders also leads the district in free throws made with 77. Sophomore James Jaspar ranked third in the district in  three-pointers man with 39, while Ward was third district wide in assists per game.
