Increased state investments and historic momentum are making a difference to protect Florida’s precious natural resources and improve water quality. At the South Florida Water Management District, we are committed to accelerating ecosystem restoration and water quality projects for the people and the environment of South Florida.

On Jan. 12, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Executive Order 23-06 (Achieving Even More Now for Florida’s Environment) to continue the momentum for Florida’s environment and enhance ongoing efforts to expedite projects. The Governor’s announcement came exactly four years to the day after he signed an Executive Order, that resulted in record environmental funding, expedited Everglades projects, and water quality improvements.

Did you know over 50 Everglades projects have been completed, broken ground or hit a major milestone since January of 2019? All of these projects are working to protect our water resources and restore America’s Everglades.

Executive Order 23-06 further advances the protection of Florida’s environment and water quality. The Executive Order ramps up efforts to accomplish even more by:

• Securing $3.5 billion over four years for Everglades restoration and the protection of water resources,
• Continuing to expedite the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) projects, and

Working with our local, state and federal partners, the district continues to expedite key projects that improve the quantity, quality, timing and distribution of water to the Greater Everglades Ecosystem and support the ecological health of South Florida’s natural resources.
